Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues ranging from tax policy and healthcare to public health and employee-owned businesses.
On August 28, 2025, Cleaver criticized recent actions by the Trump administration and congressional Republicans, stating: "Working class families are the ones struggling to get by—but the Trump administration and congressional Republicans fought to cut taxes for their billionaire donors while ripping healthcare and food assistance away from the most vulnerable. It’s morally reprehensible."
The following day, August 29, he addressed public health concerns related to vaccines and federal leadership: "Vaccines are safe and they save lives – period. With the support of congressional Republicans, Secretary Kennedy is purging doctors and health experts while eroding the scientific pillars of public health that keep our communities safe."
Later on August 29, Cleaver highlighted his meeting with a Kansas City-based employee-owned business: "Employee-owned businesses level the playing field for American workers, ensuring workers receive fair compensation for their hard work. I was honored to meet with one of KC’s employee-owned businesses, @MegaKCbuilds, to discuss these benefits and my work to expand these".
Cleaver has served as Missouri's 5th District representative since 2005 after succeeding Karen McCarthy. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1972.
