Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, criticized recent federal spending decisions and Republican leadership in a series of posts on October 20, 2025.

In his first message, Cleaver highlighted the struggles of local farmers and questioned government priorities: "There are thousands of Missouri farmers who are fighting for their livelihoods at this very moment. Instead of providing relief to these hardworking Americans, the president handed $40 billion to bailout his failing friend in Argentina." (October 20, 2025)

He continued by referencing multiple high-profile expenditures: "The wealthy get a $1 trillion tax cut. Argentina gets a $40 billion bailout. Trump gets a $250 million ballroom. Kristi Noem gets $172 million in private jets. But Republicans refuse to lower health care costs for families or provide relief to American farmers." (October 20, 2025)

Later that day, Cleaver accused House Republicans of avoiding bipartisan budget negotiations: "Instead of sitting down with Democrats and negotiating a bipartisan budget that prevents healthcare costs from skyrocketing, House Republicans have been on vacation for the past month. It’s time for them to return to Washington and get back to work on behalf of American" (October 20, 2025)

Cleaver’s comments come amid ongoing debates over agricultural aid and healthcare costs in Congress. He has represented Missouri's 5th District since succeeding Karen McCarthy in 2005 and resides in Kansas City after being born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944. Cleaver earned a BS from Prairie View A&M University in 1972.
