Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, used his social media platform on August 25, 2025, to criticize several policies of the president’s administration. Cleaver addressed issues ranging from immigration enforcement and tariffs to military leadership changes.

In a post published at 15:22 UTC, Cleaver condemned the administration’s approach to immigration enforcement: "The barbarity of the president’s extreme mass deportation policies will leave a stain that lasts for generations. It was never about removing violent criminals. It’s about harassing immigrant communities, as this mother and legal resident can attest."

Later that day at 16:35 UTC, he highlighted the economic impact of recent tariff measures by quoting a corporate executive: "‘CFO Richard McPhail said Home Depot would have to implement some price increases as a result of the Trump administration’s taxes on imports.’ The president’s tariff taxes continue to drive up prices, hurting American families nationwide."

At 17:44 UTC, Cleaver expressed concern over reported deployments of troops within U.S. cities and changes in military leadership: "As the president sends American troops into American cities based on concocted ‘crises’, his administration is also purging senior military leadership and installing loyalists. It undermines our civil liberties and weakens our national security."

Cleaver has represented Missouri's 5th District since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University.
