Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on his official social media account on August 22, 2025, addressing recent political and legal developments.
In one post from August 22 at 17:36 UTC, Cleaver wrote, "I know a red flag when I see one."
Later that day at 19:26 UTC, he commented on a recent incident involving migrants and the Everglades: "This reckless stunt dehumanized migrants, endangered the Everglades, and violated tribal sovereignty. Cruelty is not policy – and today, justice won."
At 20:18 UTC the same day, Cleaver addressed concerns about the Department of Justice (DOJ), stating: "The DOJ is not Trump’s personal police force and does not exist to settle his personal grudges – it exists to serve the American people and uphold the rule of law that keeps our democracy safe."
Cleaver has served as a member of Congress since 2005 after succeeding Karen McCarthy. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University.
