Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, recently highlighted local initiatives and federal funding concerns in a series of posts on August 20, 2025.
In one post, Cleaver praised the expansion of Kanbe’s Markets, stating on August 20: "This is about more than groceries – it’s about dignity, opportunity, and making sure every family has a chance to thrive. And with 100 locations established and counting, Kanbe’s Markets is just getting started!"
Later that day, Cleaver addressed delays in federal funding for public health departments. He wrote: "Delays aren’t just bureaucratic – they’re risking lives. Local health departments need clarity and support, not excuses.
I joined my colleagues in sending a letter demanding the Trump administration immediately release the $300 million in congressionally approved CDC funding." He followed up with another post providing access to the official correspondence: "Read the official letter here: https://t.co/TBmegrnbYv"
Cleaver's comments come as he continues his long tenure in Congress after succeeding Karen McCarthy in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and now residing in Kansas City, Cleaver holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University.
