Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing recent political developments and public safety information.
On August 7, 2025, Cleaver criticized recent legislative actions by Republicans, stating: "Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill made the largest cut to Medicaid in American history while showering billionaires and giant corporations with trillions in more tax breaks. Now, vulnerable students in communities across the country will pay the price."
The following day, August 8, Cleaver commented on former President Donald Trump’s decisions regarding individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol attack: "President Trump didn’t just pardon insurrectionists who attacked police officers at our Capitol Building on January 6th—he hired one who urged others to 'kill' officers to be a senior advisor at the Department of Justice. Absolutely disgraceful."
Later that same day, Cleaver addressed local concerns about extreme heat conditions in Kansas City. He advised residents: "Please be careful and look out for your friends, family, and neighbors this weekend! Find a list of cooling centers that will help you beat the heat in Kansas City here:" providing resources for those affected by high temperatures.
Cleaver has represented Missouri's 5th District since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005 and resides in Kansas City. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently aged 78, he graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
