Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, addressed two key issues in a series of posts on August 7, 2025: affordable housing initiatives in Kansas City and concerns over new presidential tariffs.
On August 7, Cleaver shared his participation in a local housing event: "Yesterday, I was proud to join @GCI1919 & community leaders for the ribbon cutting of Villa View Apartments in KC’s Historic Northeast. 42 of the 50 units are affordable housing – with wraparound services for families, students, & educators. We’ll keep fighting to lower housing" (posted at 16:40 UTC).
Later that day, Cleaver commented on recent federal economic policy changes: "The president’s tariff taxes are already undermining small businesses and making life more expensive for American families. With another round of tariffs enacted today, Americans will see prices continue to rise and job growth slow even further." (posted at 17:40 UTC).
He reiterated these concerns an hour later: "The President’s tariff taxes are paid by AMERICAN consumers and small businesses—which is why the costs of everything from cars to beef to coffee are becoming more expensive. At a time when hardworking families are struggling with the cost of living, this is only exacerbating" (posted at 18:40 UTC).
Cleaver has served as Missouri's representative for nearly two decades after succeeding Karen McCarthy in Congress. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, he holds a BS from Prairie View A&M University earned in 1972.
