Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, recently posted several statements on his social media account addressing national policy issues and commemorative events.

On August 6, 2025, Cleaver criticized the administration's trade approach, writing: "More data demonstrating that the President’s tariff taxes are raising prices and killing manufacturing jobs in communities across the country.

Rather than firing civil servants who are reporting facts, the president should reverse his harmful and chaotic trade policies."

The following day, August 7, he acknowledged National Purple Heart Day with a message honoring military personnel: "Today marks National Purple Heart Day.

On this day, let us come together to honor and show appreciation to Purple Heart recipients who selflessly served our nation & stood in harm’s way to protect the freedoms we cherish.

Thank you for your extraordinary bravery and sacrifice."

Later that same day, Cleaver addressed labor concerns related to government employees: "The Trump administration’s decision to terminate union contracts for thousands of employees is just another example of their anti-worker agenda.

Not only does this hurt hardworking employees at the VA, but it also undermines the vital services they provide to our nation’s"

Cleaver has represented Missouri's 5th District since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, Cleaver graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972. These details reflect his longstanding involvement in public service and advocacy on behalf of workers and veterans.
