Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed topics ranging from civil rights to public health and criminal justice reform in a series of posts on August 6, 2025.

Cleaver began by reflecting on his participation at a conference in Kansas City: "It was an honor to speak at @WeAreUnidosUS’s Beacons of Change Conference in Kansas City.

As we continue the fight to protect civil liberties and push for economic progress, we must stand united in the pursuit of better opportunities for Latinos and all Americans." (posted August 6, 2025).

Later that day, he commented on vaccine policy: "From Polio to Measles to COVID, vaccines have been a blessing that have saved countless lives in the United States & around the world.

This decision from Secretary Kennedy is anti-science and a danger to our communities. It must be reversed immediately." (posted August 6, 2025).

Cleaver also addressed criminal justice issues with reference to Ghislaine Maxwell: "Ghislaine Maxwell is a convicted predator who participated in one of the most horrific sex trafficking operations in modern history.

Under no circumstances should she receive clemency—which is why I’m supporting @CongressmanRaja’s resolution." (posted August 6, 2025).

Cleaver has served as Missouri’s representative since replacing Karen McCarthy in Congress in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, Cleaver earned his bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1972.
