Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, used his social media account on August 4, 2025, to comment on several policy issues and local developments.
In one post published at 16:28 UTC, Cleaver criticized the president’s response to recent economic data, writing, "If the president doesn’t like the recent economic numbers, he should take a look at the reckless policies being implemented under his watch—not fire the nonpartisan civil servants who are simply reporting facts. This is another dangerous step that will destabilize the economy."
An hour later, Cleaver highlighted a local infrastructure initiative. At 17:50 UTC, he stated, "It was an honor to break ground with @CityOfGrandview on the $24M revitalization of Blue Ridge Blvd – the largest infrastructure investment in city history! I fought to secure $4.6M in federal funding for the project because Grandview and south KC families deserve safer streets".
At 18:50 UTC on the same day, Cleaver addressed concerns over government spending practices involving public health resources: "Spending taxpayer dollars to incinerate 500 TONS of food assistance and nearly $10 million in contraceptives that were designated for vulnerable families is the definition of waste and inefficiency. It’s unacceptable—and why I joined @RepDonBeyer to call for an immediate".
Cleaver has represented Missouri's 5th District since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. The congressman graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a BS degree in 1972.
