Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, criticized recent federal economic and education policies in a series of social media posts on August 4, 2025.

In his first post at 13:15 UTC, Cleaver wrote, "With the support of Congressional Republicans, the President’s reckless and chaotic economic agenda is crushing American businesses and slowing down our economy — meaning fewer jobs and higher prices for everyone."

Later that day at 15:07 UTC, Cleaver marked Back to School Month with another statement: "It’s Back to School Month! Every student deserves a quality education, which is why I’m fighting back against Trump’s attacks on schools and the teachers who work tirelessly to educate the next generation."

In a subsequent post made at nearly the same time, he referenced recent actions affecting public school funding in Missouri: "Last month, following another funding freeze by the Trump administration, we were able to restore nearly $84 million in funding for public schools across Missouri. I’ll keep fighting to invest in education and lower costs for students and teachers alike"

Cleaver has represented Missouri's 5th District since 2005 after succeeding Karen McCarthy. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1972.
