Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, has used his social media platform to criticize recent legislative and economic actions taken by Republicans in Congress and former President Donald Trump.
On July 30, 2025, Cleaver posted: "Rather than enacting bipartisan solutions to lower costs for families, Republicans in Congress passed the most regressive legislation in history, transferring trillions in wealth from the working-class to the 1%. Relief for the rich but not the people."
The following day, on July 31, he addressed tariffs implemented by the current administration: "The president’s tariff taxes are raising costs on hardworking families and hurting America’s small businesses."
Later that same day, Cleaver criticized both former President Trump and Congressional Republicans: "Donald Trump’s reckless tariffs are raising costs across the board. Republicans in Congress are rubber stamping these taxes, even as they crush America’s consumers, workers, and small businesses with higher costs."
Cleaver has represented Missouri's 5th District since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City at age 78, Cleaver graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
