Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 5th district, shared his views on various pressing issues through a series of tweets on July 8, 2025.

In one tweet posted at 13:16 UTC, Cleaver highlighted the importance of the National Weather Service in disaster forecasting and early warnings. He emphasized that this role was crucial for local communities facing natural disasters and praised lawmakers' efforts to protect the agency from budget cuts. "The National Weather Service plays a vital role in forecasting natural disasters and providing early warning to local communities about impending catastrophes."

Later that day at 15:12 UTC, Cleaver criticized actions by Republicans in Congress and the Trump administration regarding healthcare and public health infrastructure. He stated, "As Republicans in Congress rip healthcare away from millions of Americans and put rural hospitals at risk of closure, the Trump administration is sowing mistrust in vaccines and dismantling public health infrastructure, reviving diseases like measles." Cleaver described these developments as "a recipe for disaster."

At 16:16 UTC, Cleaver addressed another economic issue affecting Americans: housing affordability. He pointed out how President Trump's tariff taxes exacerbate this crisis and called for their removal to alleviate financial burdens on families. "Americans across the country are already struggling with our national housing affordability crisis—and President Trump’s tariff taxes are only making matters worse."

Emanuel Cleaver has been serving Missouri’s 5th district since succeeding Karen McCarthy in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas, he currently resides in Kansas City.
