Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri's 5th district since 2005, has recently expressed his concerns on social media regarding a proposed bill by congressional Republicans. The bill, referred to as the "Big Ugly Bill," has been criticized by Cleaver for its potential impact on healthcare and its financial implications.

On July 2, 2025, Rep. Cleaver tweeted that the "Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill would rip healthcare away from 17 MILLION Americans, including 265,000 of our neighbors across Missouri." He further highlighted that the bill could increase the national debt significantly while providing tax breaks to billionaires like Donald Trump.

Later that day, at 18:49 UTC, Cleaver reiterated his opposition to the bill by describing it as "just another #GOPTaxScam." He emphasized that it benefits the wealthiest 1% at the expense of working-class families who may lose access to healthcare, food assistance, and educational opportunities.

In another tweet posted at 19:50 UTC on July 2nd, Rep. Cleaver stated that ".@TheBlackCaucus will not stand by while congressional Republicans make the largest cuts to Medicaid and food assistance in American history—just to fund more tax breaks for billionaires like Donald Trump." He assured continued resistance against what he described as a moral issue.

Emanuel Cleaver was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
