Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who has represented Missouri's 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2005, recently addressed concerns regarding a proposed legislative measure by the Republican party through a series of tweets. Cleaver, born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, expressed his views on the impact of this legislation on American families and students.
On June 10, Cleaver commented on the financial implications of the Republicans' proposed bill. He stated that "The latest analysis shows that Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill would actually RAISE taxes on the poorest Americans to fund more tax breaks for those in the top 5%." Cleaver highlighted concerns about potential reductions in healthcare and food assistance for these families.
In another tweet dated June 11, he criticized the bill’s impact on education funding for working-class students. He tweeted, "No working class student should have their dreams ripped away from them to fund more tax cuts for billionaires like Donald Trump." Cleaver labeled this aspect of the bill as "shameful."
Cleaver also addressed immigration policy concerning DACA recipients on June 11. He emphasized their contributions to society and reiterated his commitment to protecting DACA. He tweeted, "Dreamers work in key industries, raise families, contribute to our economy, and help our country thrive."
Emanuel Cleaver graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
