Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district, recently shared a series of tweets addressing both cultural celebrations and legislative initiatives. Cleaver, who has been in office since 2005 after succeeding Karen McCarthy, took to social media to extend well-wishes and discuss matters related to governmental transparency.

On June 6, 2025, Rep. Cleaver expressed his best wishes for Eid al-Adha by tweeting: "Wishing a blessed Eid al-Adha to all who are celebrating in #MO05 and around the world! Eid Mubarak!" This message was aimed at his constituents in Missouri's 5th district and those observing the holiday globally.

Later that day, Cleaver highlighted a bipartisan legislative effort by stating: "Our bipartisan bill would require the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to testify before Congress on an annual basis, strengthening transparency and ensuring HUD is accountable to the people." He provided a link for more information about this initiative.

In another tweet posted simultaneously, Cleaver emphasized the importance of congressional oversight regardless of which party controls the administration. He wrote: "Whether a Republican or Democratic administration, it is imperative that the people’s representatives have an opportunity to provide oversight of the Executive Branch on behalf of the public, which includes bringing Cabinet officials before Congress." This statement underscores his commitment to introducing measures that ensure accountability within government operations.

Emanuel Cleaver was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
