The City of Independence is preparing for its annual Independence Day Celebration, set to take place on Saturday, July 5, at the Independence Visitors’ Center located at 937 W. Walnut Street. This free event aims to extend the Fourth of July festivities with activities suitable for families.

Attendees can look forward to a performance by the Spirit of Independence Concert Band at 8:15 p.m., which will also play alongside a fireworks display starting at 9:30 p.m. The event features a variety of food trucks such as KC Whip and Company, Hawaii Ice, Jack's Kettle Corn, Tacos El Chilango, Grandma's Mini Donuts, and Weenies & Paninis.

A games area for families and children will be hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Independence Stake. Activities include a Bounce House and an Obstacle Course.

The evening will conclude with a fireworks show beginning at 8:30 p.m., viewable from several locations including the Independence Visitor's Center and other notable sites in the area.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with family games and food vendors available from that time. Motorists should be aware of road closures around the Visitors’ Center on July 5. Key closures include River Blvd at Lexington Ave and Pacific Ave, among others. Parking restrictions may vary; attendees are advised to pay attention to signage.

Safety measures will be enforced throughout the event. Weapons, smoking, pets, alcohol, outside fireworks, and drones are prohibited. Emergency services will be present for public safety.

Guests are allowed to bring personal food and non-alcoholic drinks along with small coolers, chairs, and blankets.

This celebration is organized through collaboration between the City’s Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department, the Independence Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as local police, fire department teams, health officials, and emergency preparedness personnel.
