Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, recently expressed concerns over several policy decisions made by Congressional Republicans and the President through a series of tweets. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, Cleaver has been an active voice on issues affecting working-class families.
On June 2, 2025, Rep. Cleaver criticized Congressional Republicans for their fiscal policies. He stated that "Congressional Republicans are cutting taxes for billionaires while eliminating tax credits that lower healthcare costs for working class families." According to Cleaver, these actions could result in millions of Americans losing their health coverage due to what he described as "cruel policy decisions."
Later on the same day, Cleaver commented on an executive action by the President regarding funding programs aimed at youth employment. He tweeted that "Once again, the President is attempting to overrule congressionally-mandated funding for a program that supports working class youth who are trying to sharpen their skills and obtain good-paying jobs." Cleaver emphasized his view that this decision was illegal and detrimental to America's future workforce.
On June 3, 2025, Cleaver addressed changes to food assistance programs. He noted that such programs are crucial not only for providing sustenance to vulnerable families but also for supporting family farms nationwide. In his tweet, he expressed frustration with the administration's actions: "It’s frustrating to see the President rip this support away from hardworking farmers & families."
Emanuel Cleaver graduated from Prairie View A&M University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
