Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, has recently shared his views on various legislative issues through a series of tweets. Cleaver, who succeeded Karen McCarthy and was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944, resides in Kansas City and holds a degree from Prairie View A&M University.
On June 3, 2025, Rep. Cleaver criticized the President and Republicans in Congress for their proposed legislation. He described it as a "Big Ugly Bill" that would "rip healthcare & food assistance away from millions of Americans" and warned that it would increase the deficit to fund tax cuts benefiting the top 1%.
Later that day, he expressed concerns about deregulation efforts by DOGE and the world's richest individual. Cleaver stated that while some deregulation might lower costs for small businesses, "that’s not what DOGE & the richest man in the world are doing." Instead, he argued they were removing consumer protections to benefit large corporations.
In another tweet on June 3rd, Cleaver reaffirmed his support for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), which aids over 130,000 Missouri households. He noted that these families save an average of $1,500 annually through this program and pledged to continue advocating for its preservation: "I have always supported LIHEAP... And I will continue to fight for the preservation of this program."
Cleaver's comments reflect his ongoing commitment to social welfare programs and consumer protection as part of his legislative priorities.
