Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 5th district, shared his views on various pressing issues through a series of tweets. Cleaver, who has been in office since 2005, replaced Karen McCarthy and is a long-standing representative with roots in Waxahachie, Texas.
On June 2, 2025, Cleaver addressed the recent attack in Boulder, describing it as "another horrifying, heartbreaking, and despicable example of antisemitic violence that is rising in communities across the country." He urged collective condemnation of this increasing trend of hate and violence targeted at Jewish communities.
Later that day, he highlighted the issue of gun violence in America by noting that "In 2025 alone, our country has already experienced over 125 mass shootings." Cleaver used National Gun Violence Awareness Month as an opportunity to emphasize the severe impact gun violence has on communities and reiterated a commitment to combatting this issue.
In celebration of Pride Month, Cleaver expressed support for LGBTQI+ rights by stating "Happy #Pride! As a proud Member of the @EqualityCaucus, I'm working every day in Congress toward a more equal future and fighting to defend the LGBTQI+ community from attacks on their freedom and civil rights."
Emanuel Cleaver was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a BS degree in 1972.
