The Palmer Center in Independence, Missouri, operated by the City of Independence, is offering a variety of programs and activities throughout June for adults aged 60 and above. The center aims to enhance the health and well-being of its participants.
On Tuesday, June 3, at 12:15 p.m., the center will host a "School’s Out Celebration & Summer Reading Challenge." Attendees can participate in trivia, enjoy snacks, and sign up for a reading challenge with a prize for the most pages read.
A discussion titled "Let’s Talk About: Water as a Resource" is scheduled for Friday, June 6, at 10:30 a.m. This session will focus on environmental impacts on water collection and water health.
The New Theatre event featuring "Clue" will take place on Wednesday, July 9. It includes a lunch buffet followed by the comedy-mystery play. Pre-registration is required by June 9, with a fee of $69.
A "Book Swap" event is planned for Friday, June 13, at 12:15 p.m., where participants can exchange books.
Games are set for Tuesday, June 17, at 12:15 p.m., inviting attendees to join in an afternoon of fun activities.
The center will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.
A "First Day of Summer Beach Party" will occur on Friday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m., featuring beach-themed games and refreshments.
The "Wonders of Wildlife" trip is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23. It includes lunch at Hemingway’s inside Springfield’s Bass Pro Shop and a tour through the Wonders of Wildlife Aquarium. The deadline to pre-register is June 23 with a cost of $14.
On Wednesday, June 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., visitors can learn about alpacas during the YaYa’s Alpaca Farm trip. Lunch at Reynold’s Café is included in this outing.
"Juneteenth Reflections," an event to learn about Juneteenth celebrations, is slated for Thursday, June 26 at 12:15 p.m.
The center also offers resources for individuals with low vision through various equipment and services co-sponsored with MO Rehab Services for the Blind. Additionally available are wellness check phone calls to seniors and transportation services through RideKC Freedom within city limits.
