Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, shared a series of tweets addressing various issues on May 6 and May 7, 2025.

On May 6, Cleaver expressed his opposition to efforts by President Trump and Elon Musk to reduce the federal workforce. He invited supporters to join a press conference and rally aimed at defending public servants. "President Trump and Elon want to dismantle the federal workforce. We’re standing up to defend it! Join us on the North Lawn of WWI Museum & Memorial at 10am THIS Saturday for a press conference and rally to protect the public servants who keep our country running!"

The following day, on May 7, Cleaver criticized President Trump's economic policies, particularly focusing on how they have affected homeownership. He highlighted the impact of Trump's trade war on construction costs, stating that these have increased significantly due to damaged relationships with global allies. "In President Trump’s economy, the dream of homeownership has slipped further out of reach. Thanks to his reckless trade war damaging relationships with our global allies, construction costs have been driven up by over 6%—adding nearly $11,000 to the price of a new home."

Later that same day, Cleaver announced his collaboration with Rep. Sam Graves in introducing a bipartisan resolution during Teacher Appreciation Week. This resolution aims to formally recognize educators' contributions across the nation. "During Teacher Appreciation Week, I’m proud to join @RepSamGraves to introduce a bipartisan resolution to formally recognize the important work educators do nationwide. On behalf of the communities we represent, thank you for your service!"

Emanuel Cleaver was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
