An independent audit firm has reported positive results regarding the City of Independence's fiscal year 2024 audit. According to a representative from RubinBrown, there were no findings of material weaknesses or fraud.

On April 28, an auditor from RubinBrown addressed city officials and elected representatives during a Study Session. The presentation began approximately 20 minutes into the meeting and reiterated points made in a previous January presentation to the Audit and Finance Committee, which started around 12 minutes into that meeting.

The April 28 session also included over an hour of updates from multiple tax oversight citizen committees. These presentations are available on YouTube at various timestamps: Parks Improvement Tax (43-minute mark), Tourism Tax (49-minute mark), Stormwater Tax (57-minute mark), Streets Improvement Oversight Committee (1:07:00 mark), and Public Safety Tax Oversight Committee (1:39:00 mark).

The City of Independence emphasizes transparency, with the Audit and Finance Committee holding quarterly meetings—the latest took place in March. Recordings of these meetings can be viewed on YouTube.

For further information, interested parties can access the City's Finance Department website or review the 2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report online.
