Rep. Emanuel Cleaver has recently communicated several notable updates through his social media platform, addressing federal investments in local community projects, bipartisan legal matters, and criticism towards federal budgetary decisions impacting health research.
On April 16, 2025, Cleaver shared, "I was proud to secure $4 million in federal funding to support the new pedestrian mall project in the 18th & Vine Jazz District, which will attract more visitors and support local businesses in the area. I’ll keep fighting for federal investments that support projects in this", indicating his efforts to enhance the infrastructure of the historic jazz precinct in Kansas City.
Later on the same day, Cleaver expressed gratitude for the efforts of a colleague in the Senate by posting, "I’m grateful to @ChrisVanHollen for his leadership in the fight to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia home. This is not about partisanship or politics—it’s about adhering to constitutional protections of due process, following court orders, and defending the rule of law." This message underscores the non-partisan nature of dealing with legal matters that involve constitutional rights.
Further emphasizing his political stance, Cleaver critiqued the current federal administration, stating, "The Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans are cutting federal grants that support critical research into illnesses like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes to pay for tax cuts for billionaires like Elon Musk. It’s shameful." In this post, Cleaver openly denounces the reallocation of federal funds away from essential medical research.
Emanuel Cleaver has served representing Missouri's 5th District in the U.S. Congress since 2005 following Karen McCarthy. At the age of 78, he lives in Kansas City and graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a BS in 1972. Born in 1944 in Waxahachie, Texas, Cleaver continues his service in Congress focusing on various social and economic issues.
