Volunteers are sought by the Independence Fire Department and the American Red Cross for the upcoming "Sound the Alarm" event scheduled for April 26, 2025, in Independence, Missouri. This initiative, held for the second time in six months, follows the previous effort in November 2024, during which 92 smoke alarms were installed in 45 homes across two neighborhoods in a single day.

The event will take place at Englewood Church, located at 10628 E. Winner Rd., Independence, MO. The day will be organized into two sessions, one starting at 8:00 a.m. and another at 1:00 p.m. Volunteers will work in groups, going door to door to install smoke alarms in the residences of the Englewood neighborhood.

In an effort to support volunteers, the Salvation Army and Taking it to the Streets will be providing breakfast and lunch during the event. Those interested in participating can reach out to Emma Boyd for further details or to register as a volunteer by emailing emma.boyd@redcross.org or calling 816-500-5644.
