He voiced his opposition to these measures, suggesting that their purpose was to finance a large tax cut for the wealthiest one percent, which he claimed would increase the federal deficit. Cleaver noted that the House Democrats are poised to challenge this legislative direction. "Gutting federal programs, mass firing civil servants, and ripping Medicaid and SNAP away from working class families—all to pass another massive tax cut for the wealthiest 1% that will explode the deficit."
