Cleaver expressed concern over actions by the Trump Administration regarding historical recognition: "As the Trump Administration erases the remarkable military accomplishments of African Americans, Native Americans, and women throughout time, I’m starting to think the debate over Confederate statues and military bases wasn’t just about preserving history."
The following day, on March 20, 2025, he commented on developments in Israel under Prime Minister Netanyahu: "As Prime Minister Netanyahu runs into political headwinds at home, it appears he is reigniting this conflict to the detriment of Israel, innocent Palestinians and hostages, and the entire region."
