Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 5th district since 2005, recently took to social media to express his concerns regarding healthcare policies and their impact on Medicaid recipients. His statements highlight the importance of Medicaid for many Americans and criticize proposed cuts by political opponents.

On March 18, 2025, Rep. Cleaver shared that "Research shows that access to Medicaid leads to better health outcomes." He emphasized the critical role Medicaid plays in providing affordable care, contrasting it with potential life-threatening consequences or lifelong debt for those without such access.

In another post on the same day, he criticized proposed cuts by President Trump and Republicans in Congress: "As President Trump and Republicans in Congress push the largest Medicaid cut in history, I visited a local dialysis center in #MO05 to meet with patients, doctors, and staff to highlight the devastating impact these cuts will have on our communities." This visit was intended to showcase how these reductions could affect community health services.

Further elaborating on his stance against the proposed policy changes, Rep. Cleaver stated: "Ripping Medicaid away from millions of Americans, including nearly 160,000 Missourians in #MO05, and driving up healthcare costs for tens of millions more will have devastating effects on our economy and public health." He reaffirmed that House Democrats are committed to opposing these measures.
