Emanuel Cleaver, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 5th district since 2005, has been vocal about his concerns regarding federal employees and regulatory protections in recent tweets. Cleaver, who succeeded Karen McCarthy, continues to advocate for civil servants and consumer protection amidst ongoing political discourse.

On February 19, 2025, Cleaver expressed his support for civil servants by stating “Civil servants are the backbone of our democracy. They keep our communities safe, our economy strong, and our government accountable”. He criticized President Trump and Elon Musk for their alleged harassment of federal workers and affirmed his commitment to protecting these individuals.

Later that day, Cleaver highlighted the impact on veterans among federal employees. He reminded the public that "roughly one-third of America’s federal employees are veterans" and warned against efforts by President Trump and Elon Musk to "illegally fire civil servants in every department."

In another tweet posted on February 19, 2025, Cleaver addressed financial regulation issues by stating “If there’s no one watching, if the risk of getting caught goes down, more companies will bend the law to make money.” He emphasized the importance of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which Democrats established to protect families from predatory financial practices. Cleaver criticized attempts by billionaires to dismantle this agency.
