Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 5th district since 2005, shared his thoughts on President Trump's recent policy proposals and historical civil rights movements through a series of tweets on February 5, 2025.

In one tweet, Rep. Cleaver criticized President Trump's plan regarding the Palestinian territories, expressing concerns about its impact on self-determination. He stated: "President Trump’s plan would remove Palestinians from their homeland, cost billions, and deny them any chance to determine their own future. The American dream prizes self-determination: this plan is the opposite of our values."

Another tweet by Rep. Cleaver addressed President Trump's approach to international peace efforts. He commented: "President Trump said he would bring peace around the world—but instead he’s calling to send American troops to illegally occupy Gaza. This will only lead to more instability, less security, and wasted taxpayer dollars." In this post, he emphasized the potential negative consequences of military actions in Gaza.

On a different note, Rep. Cleaver commemorated the bravery of the Freedom Riders from 1961 in another tweet. He remarked: "In 1961, the #FreedomRiders boarded buses to the Deep South to challenge segregation. They faced mob violence, arrests, and firebombings—but they never backed down." He also expressed his support for a bill proposed by Rep. Hank Johnson aimed at awarding these civil rights activists with the Congressional Gold Medal.
