Emanuel Cleaver advocates for federal funding ahead of 2026 World Cup

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district, has made several announcements via social media regarding federal investments and educational initiatives. Cleaver, who has been in office since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005, is advocating for financial support to enhance security and operations for upcoming events and educational advancements.

On January 30, 2025, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver posted on social media about his collaboration with lawmakers nationwide to request $625 million from Congress to address security needs in the 11 cities hosting the 2026 World Cup. "As the 2026 World Cup quickly approaches, I’ve teamed up with lawmakers from communities across the country to call on Congress to provide $625 million in federal investments to support security needs in the 11 host cities."

The same day, Cleaver expressed gratitude towards Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe for committing $40 million to Kansas City's World Cup operations. He urged Congress to also contribute funds ensuring a secure tournament nationwide: "Thankful to @GovMikeKehoe for promising $40 million to support 2026 World Cup operations in Kansas City. Now, it’s time for Congress to join the effort and provide funding that will ensure a safe, secure, and successful tournament nationwide."

Later that day, Cleaver shared his experience visiting Frontier Schools in Kansas City. He highlighted their innovative STEM education programs as crucial for developing future leaders: "This week, I was honored to tour @FrontierSchools in Kansas City, which is providing first-rate, innovative STEM education to the next generation of leaders in Missouri. Thank you for the time and input as we push to ensure ALL Americans receive a quality education."
