Independence voters are set to make history on April 8, 2025, as they will vote on the city's first General Obligation Bond. The bond aims to address various infrastructure needs, including repairs to bridges and roads and the construction of sidewalks near seven local schools. Additionally, it plans improvements to the Independence Athletic Complex and renovations at three historic sites.

The proposed bond would also finance a new Justice Center in a central location within the city and support the acquisition of the Jackson County Regional Animal Shelter building.

On December 16, the Independence City Council voted unanimously, with a 7-0 outcome, to place the $197 million bond issue on the upcoming ballot. This momentous decision can be viewed around the 1:04:00 timecode on the City of Independence YouTube channel.

Further details about the IndeGO Bond are available at independencemo.gov/IndeGOBond2025.
