Independence Power & Light (IPL) has issued a warning to its customers about recent scam attempts involving impersonators posing as Evergy representatives. These scammers have been visiting homes in Independence, falsely claiming that IPL is merging with Evergy and demanding payment for new meters.

IPL has clarified that there is no merger with Evergy and emphasized that their employees will never visit customers' homes or businesses to request payments. The utility company urges customers to remain vigilant due to the rise in scams through various channels such as calls, texts, emails, and door-to-door visits.

To help identify legitimate employees from IPL or Evergy, customers are advised to check for official logos on vehicles and request identification badges. Verification can also be done by contacting the Customer Service Department before sharing any sensitive information like credit card details or utility account numbers.

In case of any suspicious interactions, IPL advises contacting them immediately at 816-325-7930. Customers should also report such activities to the Independence Police Department after notifying IPL.
