Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, representing Missouri's 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2005, has been vocal on social media regarding key policy issues. In a series of tweets posted on December 9 and 10, 2024, Cleaver addressed topics ranging from healthcare to wage increases and proposed cuts to social programs.
On December 9, Rep. Cleaver emphasized the importance of enrolling in health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act. He stated, "If you aren’t already, now is the time to #GetCovered." He credited investments by House Democrats for lowering healthcare costs and urged Americans to find suitable health plans.
Later that day, he advocated for higher wages for American workers due to increased productivity and efficiency. Cleaver tweeted, "As American workers become more productive and efficient, it’s only right that they receive a raise for their hard work." He called upon Congress to support the movement to raise wages.
On December 10, Cleaver criticized House Republicans' intentions to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits in favor of tax cuts benefiting wealthy individuals. He asserted that "House Republicans are making clear that they intend to make cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid..." while assuring constituents that House Democrats would oppose these measures vigorously.
