Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, shared his insights on recent economic developments and consumer protection efforts through a series of tweets dated December 6, 2024.
In one post, Rep. Cleaver highlighted the achievements of the current administration under President Biden: "The economic recovery led by @POTUS has: -Created a record 16 million jobs -Led to the lowest average unemployment of any Administration in 50 years -Overseen a record 20 million new business applications -Led to $1 trillion in private investment in manufacturing and clean energy".
Cleaver also addressed his ongoing efforts to support the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). He questioned GOP intentions regarding consumer protection by stating: "I’ve long fought to protect and strengthen the @CFPB—because consumers deserve protection from financial schemes concocted by giant corporations. If the GOP is for working class Americans, why do they want to destroy this critical agency and the protections it provides?"
In another tweet, he expressed approval for CFPB's actions against financial malpractices: "I applaud the @CFPB for their continued crackdown on illegal junk fees and other financial schemes that exploit American families. This marks the largest-ever distribution from the CFPB’s victims relief fund, including over $32 million for Missouri consumers."
