Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on July 28, 2025, to address concerns over recent legislative actions affecting healthcare and education funding.
In a post made at 15:30 UTC, Cleaver stated, “The megabill recently passed by Congressional Republicans is expected to strip at least 130,000 Missourians of coverage over the next decade”. He continued, “Rather than lowering costs for families, Republicans are ripping healthcare away from vulnerable Missourians.”
Later that day at 16:32 UTC, Cleaver commented on federal education funding: “Earlier this month, I joined over 150 lawmakers to call on the Administration to release the education funding they were illegally withholding from students, schools, and teachers across the country. While this doesn’t undo all the damage already done, it’s a step in the right”. He also directed followers to additional information about his efforts with another post: “Find more on my effort to return this funding to our local schools here:”.
Cleaver has served as Missouri’s 5th District representative since 2005 after succeeding Karen McCarthy. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, Cleaver holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University (1972).
