Emanuel Cleaver, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 5th District, shared several statements on social media addressing significant issues and personal reflections.

On May 20, 2025, Cleaver expressed concerns about recent actions impacting the Social Security Administration. He stated, "Enabled by President Trump and Congressional Republicans, the richest man in the world is gutting the Social Security Administration and undermining essential services that seniors rely on to obtain their earned benefits." Cleaver emphasized that these developments are not about "waste or fraud" but rather "funding cuts."

In a heartfelt message on May 21, 2025, Cleaver mourned the loss of Gerry Connolly. He tweeted, "My heart breaks over the passing of @GerryConnolly—a close friend and a champion for hardworking families across Virginia." Offering condolences to Connolly's family, he hoped for peace and blessings in his memory.

Later that day, Cleaver highlighted findings from the Congressional Budget Office regarding budgetary policies. He asserted that "the Republican budget betrayal takes from the poorest families across the country to line the pockets of billionaires like Elon Musk and Donald Trump."

Cleaver has been serving Missouri’s 5th district since succeeding Karen McCarthy in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944, he graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
