Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, posted a series of statements on October 31, 2025, criticizing Republican actions regarding health care and social assistance programs.
In a post at 15:36 UTC, Cleaver stated, "As Republicans refuse to extend ACA tax credits that help working-class families afford health care, Americans across the country are seeing their premiums skyrocket. @HouseDemocrats won’t stop fighting to #ProtectOurCare and lower costs for the people."
An hour later, at 16:33 UTC, he addressed the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), writing, "The Trump administration has the funds and legal authority to fully fund SNAP in November. By choosing to play political games with these benefits, 16 million American children that rely on SNAP will go hungry. It’s morally reprehensible."
Cleaver continued his criticism at 17:30 UTC with another statement about government inaction: "Health insurance premiums are more than doubling, critical services are disrupted, and public servants have been working without pay for nearly a month—and Republicans still refuse to end their month-long vacation. This is a crisis that cannot wait."
Emanuel Cleaver has represented Missouri’s 5th District in Congress since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, Cleaver graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
