Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, has recently used his social media platform to comment on a range of national issues, including agricultural policy, healthcare legislation, and the justice system.
On October 9, 2025, Cleaver criticized the Trump administration's financial support for foreign agriculture in a tweet: "As Missouri soybean farmers are struggling to survive, the Trump administration just gave $20 billion to Argentina—one of their top competitors. How is this America First? Stop bailing out foreign farmers, start providing relief to hardworking Americans, and end the tariffs!"
The following day, October 10, 2025, Cleaver addressed Congressional Republican efforts related to healthcare policy and military personnel: "Republicans in Congress want the President to use American troops as political pawns in their effort to end ACA tax credits that help American families afford their health care. Later on October 10, Cleaver commented on actions taken by New York Attorney General Letitia James and subsequent developments involving the Department of Justice: "AG Letitia James did her job in holding the president to account—which a jury of Americans supported. Now, she’s being persecuted for it. The president’s weaponization of the DOJ is the hallmark of authoritarianism, and we all must stand up & speak out against this perversion"
Cleaver has represented Missouri’s 5th District since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. Cleaver graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
