Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media addressing current political and economic issues.

On October 7, 2025, Cleaver called for action from House leadership regarding healthcare policy and government funding. He wrote, "If the Speaker is serious, he can extend the ACA tax credits that will prevent healthcare premiums from skyrocketing, restore the $1 TRILLION in funding Republicans cut from Medicaid, and end the Republican shutdown!"

Later that day, Cleaver criticized recent tariff policies by the president. In his post dated October 7, 2025, he stated: "While families are already struggling to stay afloat and keep food on the table, the president’s reckless tariff taxes are driving up prices on everyday goods that Americans rely on. They deserve better."

On October 8, 2025, Cleaver questioned reported considerations of a presidential pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell and demanded transparency regarding related documents. He posted: "Why would the president even consider pardoning a convicted sexual predator like Ghislaine Maxwell? Release the Epstein Files."

Cleaver has represented Missouri's 5th District since 2005 after succeeding Karen McCarthy. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City at age 78, Cleaver graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1972.
