Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, addressed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in a series of posts on October 7, 2025.
In his first statement, Cleaver urged both parties to pursue peace, writing, "I call on Israel and Hamas to take the first step towards ending the devastation and destruction throughout the region by agreeing to the proposed ceasefire and a long term peace process." (October 7, 2025).
He continued by expressing sympathy for those affected by the conflict: "As we pray for the victims, their families, and their communities, let us also pray for the immediate return of the innocent hostages, an end to this brutal conflict and the suffering of the Palestinian people, and a lasting peace across the region." (October 7, 2025).
Cleaver also marked an anniversary related to recent violence: "Today marks 2 years since Hamas terrorists senselessly slaughtered over 1,200 people, including dozens of Americans, in their brutal attack on Israel. May we take a moment to grieve with the families, and may we never forget the lives lost." (October 7, 2025).
Emanuel Cleaver has represented Missouri’s 5th District in Congress since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944, Cleaver is currently 78 years old and resides in Kansas City. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
