Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on October 2, 2025, criticizing both President Biden and congressional Republicans over government spending and health care issues.
In a post published at 18:27 UTC, Cleaver accused the president of misleading the public about his involvement with Project 2025 and said: "The president lied to the American people about his association with Project 2025 and is now using Russ Vought to implement this deeply dangerous and harmful agenda—which will gut federal services for hardworking families. This has been the plan from day one."
An hour later, at 19:26 UTC, Cleaver criticized Republican lawmakers’ handling of government funding negotiations. He wrote: "Instead of working with Democrats to pass a bipartisan spending bill that would have prevented another harmful shutdown, Republicans have been on vacation for the past 2 weeks. Americans deserve better."
In a third post at 20:23 UTC, Cleaver addressed the consequences of a government shutdown. He stated: "After months of making life harder and more expensive, Republicans are now inflicting a painful shutdown on the American people because they refuse to protect Americans’ health care. Democrats will keep working to reopen the government and address the Republican health care"
Cleaver has served in Congress since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005 and currently resides in Kansas City. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944, he graduated from Prairie View A&M University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
