Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who has represented Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2005, marked the anniversary of September 11 and addressed several current political issues in a series of social media posts on September 11, 2025.
In his first post commemorating the attacks, Cleaver wrote, "Today marks the 24th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks, the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. As we pause to honor the 2,977 lives lost, let us also remember the courageous first responders, the survivors, and the families whose lives were forever https://t.co/1D85PKQw5t" (September 11, 2025).
Later that day, Cleaver voiced opposition to mid-decade redistricting efforts: "Missourians are against mid-decade redistricting. The labor community is against mid-decade redistricting. The business community is against mid-decade redistricting. The faith community is against mid-decade redistricting. Listen to the people! https://t.co/OcqKQ0h0Cm" (September 11, 2025).
Cleaver also criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic policies: "President Trump promised he would lower prices on “Day One”. Instead, his reckless and chaotic tariff taxes continue to drive up prices at a time when families are already struggling to stay afloat. Americans deserve better. https://t.co/5S0lHDw39N" (September 11, 2025).
Cleaver was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1972 and replaced Karen McCarthy as representative for Missouri's 5th District in Congress.
