Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, criticized Republican-led healthcare policies and President Trump’s trade tariffs in a series of posts on August 13, 2025.

In one post, Cleaver stated: "Republicans know that the American people overwhelmingly support access to affordable healthcare—which is why they are quietly rolling back Obamacare and the protections it provides to families nationwide. We won’t stop fighting against these cuts." (August 13, 2025).

Later that day, Cleaver addressed the impact of tariffs on Americans: "The president’s tariff taxes are putting a major strain on American families and small businesses, driving up prices at a time when folks are already struggling to stay afloat. The chaotic and reckless trade wars must come to an end." (August 13, 2025).

Cleaver further commented on former President Trump’s economic policies: "The American people are sick and tired of President Trump’s reckless tariff taxes driving up prices on everyday essentials. Rather than cutting taxes for billionaires like himself, he should be working to cut costs for hardworking families!" (August 13, 2025).

Emanuel Cleaver has been serving in Congress since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005 and represents Missouri's 5th District. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. Cleaver graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
