Emanuel Cleaver, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district, frequently engages with constituents on social media to share his perspectives on critical issues. Born in Waxahachie, Texas, in 1944, Cleaver has served in Congress since 2005 after succeeding Karen McCarthy. He resides in Kansas City and is an alumnus of Prairie View A&M University.

On April 18, 2025, Cleaver expressed condolences through social media following a mass shooting incident in Florida. “My heart breaks for the families of the victims, those injured, and the entire Florida State community as they reel from the latest mass shooting in America. There are steps we can take to protect America’s schools and universities—but Congress must have the courage to ACT, not”, he stated, emphasizing the urgency for legislative action.

Later the same day, Cleaver conveyed a message of goodwill for those observing a religious holiday. “To all those who observe in #MO05 and around the world, I wish you a blessed Good Friday.”, he wrote, acknowledging the significance of the day for many of his constituents.

Cleaver also addressed the issue of housing assistance, noting the limited reach of federal rental support. “Only 25% of eligible families currently receive federal rental assistance to help afford rent, with many more on a waitlist and in need of help. Gutting the voucher program as homelessness and housing prices are on a historic rise is deeply cruel and will have a devastating”, he remarked, signaling concern over policy changes that could exacerbate housing instability.

Cleaver, who holds a BS from Prairie View A&M University, continues to voice his positions on various national matters, reflecting his longstanding commitment to serving the interests of his district.
