Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a Congressman representing Missouri's 5th District since 2005, took to social media recently expressing concerns over policies affecting the American public. His comments offered sharp criticism of recent decisions made by the government and the administration. Cleaver, originally from Waxahachie, Texas and a graduate of Prairie View A&M University, is known for voicing strong opinions on issues impacting his constituents.

On April 16, 2025, Cleaver posted about the impact of President Trump's trade policies: "President Trump’s reckless trade war and tariff taxes, implemented with the permission of congressional Republicans, continue to devastate the retirement portfolios and pensions of seniors across the country. At what point will the GOP end this self-inflicted crisis?" Cleaver criticized the trade measures for their adverse effects on pensioners and called for reevaluation of these policies.

Later that day, Cleaver tweeted his concerns regarding Medicaid: "These exact same Republicans just voted for a bill that opens the door to such devastating cuts to Medicaid. So, who’s lying to the American people here?" This statement was directed towards perceived contradictions in the decisions made by Republican lawmakers, hinting at discrepancies between public claims and legislative actions.

On April 17, 2025, Cleaver addressed rising housing costs: "As housing costs & homelessness are on a historic rise, we need an all-hands-on-deck approach to ensuring every American has a safe place to rest their head at night. Unfortunately, the president continues to take actions that will exacerbate the crisis." Cleaver stressed the need for comprehensive strategies to counteract the increasing number of homeless individuals and criticized ongoing administrative policies.

Emanuel Cleaver, at 78 years of age, continues to be an active voice for the residents of Kansas City and the broader Missouri 5th District, focusing on social and economic issues.
