Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, posted a series of tweets on November 5, 2025, criticizing the current administration and Republican leadership for recent policy decisions and the ongoing government shutdown.

In his first tweet at 16:17 UTC, Cleaver stated, "The president and Republicans promised they would lower costs, but instead they hiked taxes on small businesses and shut down the government to prevent an extension of ACA tax credits that help families afford health care. That is why Americans nationwide decisively supported https://t.co/njmxCBVTKe".

An hour later, at 17:16 UTC, he addressed the government shutdown: "With Republicans in control of the White House, House, and Senate, America is now facing the longest shutdown in our nation’s history. It’s time for House Republicans to end their month-long vacation and negotiate a bipartisan budget that will reopen government and lower health https://t.co/qtmd6bmFlq".

At 18:11 UTC on the same day, Cleaver criticized presidential priorities amid economic concerns: "While the president is focused on his gilded ballroom, raising tariff taxes, and giving a $40 billion bailout to Argentina, American families are struggling with the surging cost of groceries, utilities, and health care. The people are paying the price for the president’s chaos https://t.co/9leCh9lajI".

Cleaver has been a member of Congress since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
