Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who has represented Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2005, addressed several policy concerns in a series of posts on October 16, 2025.
In his first post of the day, Cleaver highlighted proposed legislation regarding water fluoridation guidance. He stated, "The Protect Our TEETH Act would require the EPA to consult and publish a rapid response evidence review by independent and nonpartisan experts at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) when proposing new water fluoridation guidance." (October 16, 2025).
Later that afternoon, Cleaver criticized the president's economic policies. He wrote, "The president promised he would lower costs for hardworking families on Day One. Instead, his tariff taxes immediately started driving up prices on everything from health care and housing to groceries and new cars." (October 16, 2025).
In his final post that day, Cleaver turned his attention to health care spending and international financial aid. He posted, "The Trump administration and Republicans in Congress refuse to spend a dime helping to lower health care costs for American families—but they’re more than happy to give a $40 BILLION handout to Trump’s personal friend in Argentina. It’s outrageous." (October 16, 2025).
Cleaver, born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, has a long history of public service. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972. Since succeeding Karen McCarthy in Congress two decades ago, Cleaver has frequently commented on national policy issues ranging from health care to environmental regulation.
