Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, criticized House Republicans in a series of tweets on October 14, 2025, focusing on government shutdowns, health care costs, and farm policy.

In a post at 15:01 UTC, Cleaver stated, "While House Republicans continue their 4-week vacation, I’m heading back to Washington today as @HouseDemocrats continue working to reopen the government and lower health care costs. Republicans must get back to work, stop taking away Americans' health care, and negotiate a".

Cleaver continued his criticism in a subsequent tweet at 15:59 UTC, warning about the potential impact on his constituents if certain health care provisions are rolled back. He wrote, "If Republicans are successful in ending the Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits, 46,000 Missourians in #MO05 will see their health care costs skyrocket. That’s why I’m fighting to #ProtectOurCare, extend these tax credits, and lower health premiums for working class".

Later the same day at 17:14 UTC, Cleaver addressed agricultural policy and international aid, posting, "As farm bankruptcies soar due to the president’s reckless tariff taxes, the Trump administration just provided a $20 billion bailout to Argentina before providing relief to American farmers. Americans deserve better."

Cleaver has represented Missouri’s 5th district since replacing Karen McCarthy in 2005 and has been active in advocating for health care access and support for local farmers. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, Cleaver holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University, earned in 1972.
