Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address issues ranging from voter participation to economic and healthcare concerns.
On September 16, 2025, Cleaver encouraged civic engagement, stating, "Our democracy is strongest when everyone participates. On #NationalVoterRegistrationDay, take some time to check your registration so that you can make your voice heard at the ballot box."
Later that day, Cleaver commented on recent votes related to tariffs: "Nearly every Republican voted to maintain tariff taxes that are driving up prices on everything from your morning coffee to your vegetables and steaks. They’d rather do the president’s bidding than lower your costs." This statement reflects ongoing debates in Congress over trade policy and its impact on consumer prices.
On September 17, 2025, Cleaver turned his attention to healthcare policy, writing, "If Republicans do not extend ACA tax credits, Americans will see the largest jump in healthcare costs in years. Families are already struggling to stay afloat—which is why Democrats are fighting to extend this relief for the people."
Cleaver has represented Missouri’s 5th District since 2005 after succeeding Karen McCarthy. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City, Cleaver graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a BS degree in 1972.
